Thirty years ago, flames tore through The Assembly House, threatening to steal away centuries of stories, splendour and Georgian grandeur. But Norwich said no.

Thanks to the incredible work of the Norfolk Fire Service, The Assembly House Trust, expert conservators, and a city of supporters who refused to let us go, this historic house was saved – and 30 years later, we’re still standing. Stronger, sparklier and more loved than ever!

On Friday 15 August, we invite you to celebrate the survival of a Norfolk icon at the most magical night of the summer.

We are opening up the House for a night where you can dress to impress and enjoy a night of celebration that includes:

🍸 A welcome cocktail and canapés under the chandeliers

🍽 A decadent three-course dinner designed by our much-missed and forever beloved boss, Richard Hughes served on communal tables of up to 10

💃 A sparkling disco to dance the night away

🎲 A stylish casino to tempt your luck

🍹 Signature cocktails and mocktails, including our golden Phoenix Punch

🎆 Indoor fireworks

This is a celebration of everything The Assembly House has been – and everything it has become – thanks to the people who saved it and the guests who’ve filled it with life for the last three decades.

Thursday 15 August, 7pm, carriages at 11pm

Summer Ball Menu

Starter

The Assembly House Prawn Cocktail – juicy prawns in a spiced Marie Rose sauce with crisp baby gem lettuce, avocado purée, and a hint of citrus, served with a Parmesan and black pepper crisp.

Classic Bruschetta (VG) – toasted sourdough topped with summer tomatoes, red onion, garlic, and basil, drizzled with aged balsamic glaze

Chicken, duck and sour cherry terrine with orange and mustard salad and candied pecans

Main Course

Norfolk herb-roasted Chicken Supreme – Served with a light lemon and thyme jus, buttery crushed new potatoes, and summer greens

Pea, feta and summer herb frittata with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and baby potatoes (VGa)

Lemon and herb-baked salmon – A fillet of salmon, oven-roasted salsa verde, served with crushed peas, braised Baby Gem and baby potatoes.

Dessert

Lemon posset with summer berries – served with a pistachio shortbread biscuit

Chocolate and raspberry torte (VG) – A rich dark chocolate torte with a raspberry coulis and vanilla bean ice-cream

Coffee and Baileys profiteroles – choux pastry filled with Baileys-infused cream and topped with espresso chocolate ganache

Our kitchen is a place where nuts and ingredients linked to allergens and auto-immune diseases are present and airborne at all times. We cannot guarantee there is no cross-contamination, as there will always be an airborne cross-contamination issue when food is prepared in and served from an area where these ingredients are used daily. Please note Vegetarian / vegan / GF adaptations are always available - please inform of us of any allergens or dietary requirements a minimum of 48 hours before your booking. There may be dish adaptations to suit the dietary requirements. All desserts on all menus are suitable for vegetarians.
