Room 16 at The Assembly House
The Channel 4 suite. A grand lilac luxury hotel room in Norwich with freestanding bath
Room 16 is the one that made it onto Channel 4...yes, we are still talking about it.
Perched on the second floor of our West Wing, this is one of our grandest West Wing suite, with sweeping views across the entire courtyard and towards the Noverre Garden. It is a guest favourite, a celebrity favourite and known affectionately as The Lilac One.
Decorated in English Heritage approved Georgian shades of lilac, pink and warm neutrals, the suite is layered with handmade wallpaper, original artwork, antiques, writing desks, occasional tables and velvet seating. It is theatrical without being overwhelming, elegant without being shy.
The living space is beautifully zoned, with a bespoke four poster kingsize 6ft 6in bed, a separate lounge area and a spectacular marble bathroom featuring a dual ended freestanding bath and walk in drench shower. From the bath, you can gaze towards the garden. From the windows, you reign over the courtyard.
The interiors are by acclaimed designer Annabel Grey, whose work also includes Voewood in Holt and projects for London Underground. Every corner reflects her love of bold Georgian colour and confident detail.
Author of The Miniaturist, Jessie Burton, stayed here and asked, “Can I live here now?” We understood the sentiment.

Guest Review
Phoebe Taplin, The Guardian, September 10 2023, who stayed in Room 16: "We are spending two nights at the Assembly House, a Georgian mansion in the middle of Norwich. It’s a 20-minute stroll or 10-minute bus ride from the railway station and everything about it – from the fairy-lit facade and four-poster beds to the fresh milk and underfloor heating – feels luxurious. Every room is totally distinct. Our palatial space, with views of the courtyards below, is one of four added recently in the west wing; the walls are pale lavender, there's an antique chandelier and shelves of gold-lustre porcelain. Breakfast includes compote and granola, Norfolk rarebit or buttermilk pancakes. It’s served in a grand hall with wreaths of ornate stuccowork or in the neighbouring dining room with its Bridgerton-esque pink-and-lime-green twist on playful Georgian aesthetics."
